So the tale goes - you can be more successful by doing things slowly and steadily rather than by acting quickly and carelessly. Portfolio liquidity is, and always has been, taken very seriously at Fidelity. Our approach to managing liquidity risk is stringent and a hugely important element of our investment decision making process. Understandably enough, there has been a lot of focus in the media on the challenges less liquid assets can present for investors. However, there is still a case for investing in these assets with the alpha-generating properties they can bring to a portfolio, as well as the diversification benefits, but the risks need to be thoroughly understood and managed. In our session you'll hear from our multi asset experts around our rigorous approach to manager selection, portfolio construction and risk oversight. Achieving the right blend of multi asset solutions through a combination of active management and flexibility can enhance risk-adjusted returns over the long term, and when it comes to taking liquidity risk intelligently: we're the tortoise and not the hare.

It's no longer a niche part of the investing universe. This year we have seen trade disputes about telephone networks and their links with government agencies, unprecedented protests by school children and climate protestors in London. Responsible investing has come to the fore in the UK and is making its way into investment decisions but how do we measure it and what impact does it have on returns?
Mainstream multi asset/multi manager funds are not immune from evaluating the opportunities that exist in low carbon, socially responsible enterprises when they asset allocate now and in the future.

Fund Manager, Multi Asset
Investors are facing two inter-linked and somewhat offsetting trends; a weakening economic cycle and ample central bank liquidity. These two trends continue to intensify with more central banks joining the “cutting club” and the risk that political events (trade tensions, Brexit etc…) might push an anaemic growth environment into outright recession. Can we tread a careful line to benefit from the liquidity environment but without taking too much cyclical risk.
